Blogger help needed

leave a comment »

Ever since I did an F-disk and reinstalled XP, I have had a little problem with Blogspot. When I write my post,
I seem to be able to write forever on the same line – the line does not change by itself.
This causes a massive problem when I publish my post because the letters simply disappear on the page.

Do you know what to do about this?

Spøttrup Medieval Castle

leave a comment »

As my those of you who are my Facebook friends will know, my family and I went to visit the medieval castle in Spøttrup, Denmark, the other day. I have only ever seen it from outside so it was quite interesting to get behind those thick walls and see what people really lived like back then.

Let me tell you a little about the castle. It is Denmark’s best preserved medieval castle and it is standing on some very rugged land. You get a very clear sense that in those days safety went first and comfort second! There was nothing comfortable about it but the walls were thick and the waters surrounding the castle must have made a good protection against enemies. When you see the holes in the walls for canons, you get a real sense of the danger!

Also, there are multiple toilet shafts built into the walls. Cruel today, perhaps kinda luxurious back then?

The castle is well worth a visit if you’re into medieval stuff. Every year there is a medieval market there.

Spice up your blog!

leave a comment »

Emo4You Okay peeps, let’s talk about how you can spice up your blog! Sometimes you (or your readers) just get tired of the long blog entry with no pics and yet 12,000 words. It’s time to make your blog stand out a little.

First of all, you can add cute smileys. Go to FreeEmo4U where you will find hundreds of different smileys. When you’ve found one you like, you simply click on it and copy/paste the html into your blog. That’s it! It couldn’t be easier.

Next thing is to bring a bit of life into your blog and here’s where I recommend Apture which is a tool that lets you embed all kinds of media into your posts. You go to their page, sign up and add a html code to your blog. Then you’re ready to go. You can now embed video, pics or articles to your blog entries – even after you have posted your entry! It’s so cool. Here is an example. I have opened Apture and searched for the term “blog design“:

And the result (or one of them) is an article about great blog designs. Isn’t that awesome?? Apture is a free tool which makes it even more neat.

Now for something totally amazing: Free blog backgrounds. Don’t you ever get tired of the same old white or black background? I found this cool site called The Cutest Blog on the Block and this is someone who offers free backgrounds for blog (just keep the URL on it) – the background on my blog is from that site. They have some beautiful patterns and they’re easy to install, just a simple piece of code and your blog can really stand out from the crowd.

And then the fonts. I have seen some pretty amazing blog entry fonts around the web but I haven’t been able to make them work myself as I am not that good at html coding. But if you’re a somewhat skilled blogger, you might be able to do it – check out this article: How to use a cute font for your Blogger post titles.

I guess that’s it for now on this subject of spicing up your blog. I will be back with more when I find some cool stuff around the web..Oh one last thing, why not add a nice signature under each post? Go to My Live Signature, press the wizard and follow the easy instructions.

Enjoy!

Please help me with html !

leave a comment »

Help! I hate that it’s so hard changing a layout here in Blogger! I am tired of our current layout and wanna change it but I have made so many customizations and added lots of widgets and I would seriously hate to lose them. I have tried numerous HTML software that compares codes but it is just beyond me.. it is way too hard for me.

Do you know of an easier way to do it, either by software or begging?

Some of my favorite CommentLuv blogs

with 8 comments

I have installed CommentLuv for Blogger which is a nice plug-in that lets visitors post a comment and add a link to one of their own blog posts. It should help increase both traffic and comments.
I want to connect with other CommentLuv’ers out there and I have already found some really good sites:

1. Thou Shall Blog. This is an awesome site for blog beginners with lots of tips.

2. Her Family Blog. I like to read mommie blogs, they’re always fun and entertaining.

3. Blog That Outside. Humorous blog about interesting sites online.

4. I do things so you don’t have to. Fun, fun, fun. You gotta visit!

These are some of my favorites. Over on Zebida.com Hesham is making a really cool list of CommentLuv blogs and you can appear on it, too. Visit the site here: Why I created my 100 Fresh Blog List of CommentLuv for Daily Comments.

More about my comment problems

leave a comment »

maxhomebits (http://web-workathome.com): Hi there, First of all Thanks for including my link in your Zementa list, I have decided to put the Disqus system on hold, primarily because of the loss of my comments. I can only assume that there is a clash with one of my other plugins, any how I have a pretty good setup for my comments and as the old saying goes if it aint broke don’t fix it. The programmer over at Disqus gave me the usual first option and ran me through the import option which i already did, I guess the only way to narrow it down is to disable all 40 plus plugins to find the culprit.

Gitte: I have to tell you, I am so incredibly nervous about using other comment systems than Blogger‘s own and yet I am drawn to the options the other ones offer. I am extremely apprehensive since the Intense Debate disaster on my blog. I’ve only been using Disqus for a day so I am gonna try it out a bit longer – if I sense anything wrong, I will get rid of it. It’s really annoying to have the whole comment system messed up and I am sure it’s no fun for the readers, either. Thanks for your comment, we appreciate it :

And so we’re back to Blogger again…

Users of Disqus: Please comment

leave a comment »

This could be the last night I am alive. Kurt is gonna kill me in the morning, I just know it. He’s sick and tired of me messing around with stuff in here. Anyway, it took me one day to decide on testing yet another comment system. This time it’s Disqus I am trying out but – Kurt – don’t worry, this time I have saved the good template so we won’t run into any more layout changes any time soon .

If there are any Disqussers out there, please tell me about your experiences, good and bad. I would really love to hear from you.

P.S. Thanks Giannii for the comment about Disqus.

Please comment, we’re losing self -esteem..

Shrinking Self Esteem

It’s day one with our new layout and our good old Blogger comment system. Just goes to show you should never get too cocky – it will come back to bite you in the ass or in our case, in our fancy schmancy comment system.

Somebody has been kind enough to suggest to us that we might want to blog about more different topics on this blog and I am so glad he suggested it. We are sort of limited, I suppose, in our blogging about serial killers, crime and magic. Of course we blog for ourselves mostly on this blog as it is a sort of diary but it’s always nice to have some sort of audience and ones who leave comments are even better.

Writing and blog design is my hobby and I learn something new every day. That’s why it is so wonderful when people give good criticism. There’s no learning otherwise. I am right now working on creating a more widespread range of topics and also tempting folks out there to comment.

If anyone has any ideas/suggestions, they are most welcome..

Thumbs Up (Big)

Sweat, blood and tears: Comment system crash

with 4 comments

Well talk about an inconvenience! We had some problems with Intense Debate and we were unable to uninstall it from our template so the only solution we could think of was to simply pick another layout for the blog.

That’s when we ran into more trouble. We couldn’t get Blogger‘s comment system to work! After uploading a lot of different layouts I suddenly discovered that the comment system works when we pick the pop up window but not the embedded version. I did a little research and I discovered that other bloggers have the same issue. Still, we’re gonna stick with Blogger’s system for now because I am just too frustrated to have another comment system cause me grief, be it Intense Debate, Haloscan or Disqus.

Now we are left with a new layout that I have to get used to, I might admit, and we face one problem which is that all our old comments are gone and it is only possible to comment on new entries, meaning entries posted today! This blows big time and I wonder if anybody can help me with it so that all entries are open to be commented on.

Anybody know how to do this? I would appreciate the help.

Apart from that we are up and running and I am sorry for any inconvenience.

Help with Blogger comments, please

with 2 comments

I’m working on our Blogger layout because Intense Debate didn’t work and now that I have uploaded a new layout, there is no way for people to leave comments! It doesn’t say “Leave a comment” anywhere. I have comments enabled and they should show. I know the latest comments show but there is no way to leave new ones.

Please email me at ggorzelak at mail.tele.dk.
