How many hotdogs can you eat in 10 minutes?

leave a comment »

Stomach diagram in Inkscape.

American Joey Chestnut can eat 68 . In only 10 minutes. That makes him the new world record holder. The competition was shown live on sports channel ESPN and has become a tradition on Independence Day.

Chestnut took home 20,000 dollars and probably a severe stomach ache.

Whenever I read about this sort of contest, I ask myself two things.
First of all, why would you eat 68 hotdogs? I know, money is always nice but still, this is eating to the point of sickness. And the second thing I ask myself: Could I make a record? I mean any kind of record.

Perhaps blogging for a total of 68 hours non-stop?

Did you ever break a record?

Moore Kurt

leave a comment »

Just a pic I absolutely love ! For those of you who don’t know, this is a pic of Kurt Moore Larson, the guy who is my co-author on this here blog and also the dude who won over my heart many years ago and has been a must-have-in-my-life since then.

I’d say we spend about 5 hours a day talking – and may I send a big huge thank you to Yahoo Messenger for making it possible to speak via voice for absolutely free across the world – and we’ve actually gone from talking for perhaps 7-8 hours a day (I know, that like..a lot!) to 5 because honestly, even though we can talk and do stuff at the same time around the house, you still sometimes need to get out. You know, for air and light and stuff. So we’re down to 5 hours a day which is our good morning talk and our middle of the day talk and our very necessary goodnight talk. I don’t really feel right if we haven’t said goodnight.

Of course there are things that bug us about each other like there is with every couple. Just the other day we had a talk about my bedtime..which I find rather silly in the first place since I am 35 (???). I suppose it’s one of the fall pits of being in a May-December relationship: Ya gotta be really careful to not go parent on someone and you gotta be careful to not turn daughter instead of partner. Anyway, his opinion is that I sit up way too late and he’s right of course. I do. When I state my endless list of reasons for staying up, he is always kind and says “Yeah I know, I have known you for years, you know” and in my mind I go “Then why are ya friggin’ commenting on my bedtime still??”…ha ha.. oh the joys of being two. But we absolutely love each other and there’s just no way I can picture myself Kurt-less.

I remember only vaguely when Kurt wasn’t in my life and at this point he’s like .. how can I put it..he’s my rock, the one I turn to for virtually anything and low and behold, he’s always there.

And why am I spending this time making a blog post about him? Because I once did an interview with him about the witches of Salem and I am thinking about interviewing him again..Watch this space.

Spice up your blog!

leave a comment »

Emo4You Okay peeps, let’s talk about how you can spice up your blog! Sometimes you (or your readers) just get tired of the long blog entry with no pics and yet 12,000 words. It’s time to make your blog stand out a little.

First of all, you can add cute smileys. Go to FreeEmo4U where you will find hundreds of different smileys. When you’ve found one you like, you simply click on it and copy/paste the html into your blog. That’s it! It couldn’t be easier.

Next thing is to bring a bit of life into your blog and here’s where I recommend Apture which is a tool that lets you embed all kinds of media into your posts. You go to their page, sign up and add a html code to your blog. Then you’re ready to go. You can now embed video, pics or articles to your blog entries – even after you have posted your entry! It’s so cool. Here is an example. I have opened Apture and searched for the term “blog design“:

And the result (or one of them) is an article about great blog designs. Isn’t that awesome?? Apture is a free tool which makes it even more neat.

Now for something totally amazing: Free blog backgrounds. Don’t you ever get tired of the same old white or black background? I found this cool site called The Cutest Blog on the Block and this is someone who offers free backgrounds for blog (just keep the URL on it) – the background on my blog is from that site. They have some beautiful patterns and they’re easy to install, just a simple piece of code and your blog can really stand out from the crowd.

And then the fonts. I have seen some pretty amazing blog entry fonts around the web but I haven’t been able to make them work myself as I am not that good at html coding. But if you’re a somewhat skilled blogger, you might be able to do it – check out this article: How to use a cute font for your Blogger post titles.

I guess that’s it for now on this subject of spicing up your blog. I will be back with more when I find some cool stuff around the web..Oh one last thing, why not add a nice signature under each post? Go to My Live Signature, press the wizard and follow the easy instructions.

Enjoy!

Join in Seriously Silly Saturday

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s Seriously Silly Saturday gelakguling! On the pic above you see me as a nun. That’s a good example of something rather silly (although my life does actually resemble that of a nun but that’s another story).

We’d like to encourage you to act silly today, post silly comments here, post silly videos or photos here, just act completely crazy. The most silly person might be rewarded (notice I said “might be”).

Facebook group for noncustodial parents

with 3 comments

Just informing our readers that I have just created a new group on Facebook for non-custodial parents. If you would like to join, just follow this link. I think it’s important to raise awareness about noncustodial parents and their stories because of the social stigma they/we live under. Quite often people frown upon a person who has lost custody although the truth is it can be due to reasons beyond their own control and they are excellent parents within their own right and ability. I hope the community grows quickly and will provide a nice forum for us all.

This blog post is part of Zemanta‘s “Blogging For a Cause” campaign to raise awareness and funds for worthy causes that bloggers care about.

Blog community for non-custodial mothers?

leave a comment »

An infant feeding from a bottleBaby with bottle, Image via Wikipedia

It occurred to me today as I was reading through some quite wonderful mom blogs, has anyone ever made a web ring or blog community for non-custodial mothers? All these mommy bloggers were sharing stories about snotty noses, funny things their kids said and so on and I just got to thinking, where do you really go when you’re a different kind of mother? I know, there are lots of nice message boards out there but I am talking about moms who have lost custody and run their own blog – AND who want to be a part of a community of blogs..sharing ideas, stories and comfort when needed. Where is it? Should we make one?

I’ve gotta think about this..

6 ways to lose blog readers

leave a comment »

Free Emoticons For Your Blog

The Über-geek says:

Here are some surefire ways to get rid of blog readers once and for all:

1. Clutter your sidebar. Fill it with widgets, ads, shout-boxes and pics.

2. Write one blog entry per month. Zzzzzz…

3. Use white text on black background. Research has shown that blogs with black text and white background gain more readers.

4. Don’t respond to comments. Stroke your ego, ask for comments and don’t bother to answer. Make it difficult to comment. If you’re really good, you can make it so hard that it requires a PHD.

5. Make people subscribe to your feed and then fill up their reader with posts about your cat.

6. Write very long entries with lots of repeats.

Hope this was helpful.
